Friends of New London Mission

The mission of the Friends of New London, Virginia, Inc. is to collect, preserve and disseminate information about the history of New London, Virginia, from its founding to the present day.

Who We Are

Founded in 2005, Friends of New London is a historical society devoted to discovering, preserving, and sharing the history of New London, Virginia.

Founded in 1754 as the county seat of Bedford, New London tells the story of life in Central Virginia from the colonial era through the American founding and into the 20^th century. Significant sites include a colonial tavern, a Revolutionary era arsenal, a 19^th-century resort hotel, an African American Church, and much more. Archaeology, architectural investigation, and archival research are slowly uncovering the rich history of this little-known community.

Where We Are

The core of historic New London is what locals call “the village,” a short stretch of Alum Springs Road in Campbell County, Virginia. Significant New London properties are located within a few miles of that core. Our office is located at 672 Alum Springs Rd.
